Class 66 - a history

The DB class 66 (year of manufacture: 1955) was designed to replace the classes 78 and 93 as a universal locomotive in light passenger and express freight service. The increased use of diesel locomotives, however, prevented this development and only two class 66 models were launched. Just like every other Neubaulok, both engines were equipped with a mixing pre-heater as well as a welded combustion boiler. The meticulously detailed models 66 001 and 66 002 designed for model railway layouts relive this extraordinary era of railway history.

Models

Operation is possible on both conventional analogue as well as digital layouts that correspond to the NMRA DCC format. The 66 001 has an open tender while the control is equipped with a plain-bearing cross head, just like its prototype. The 66 002, on the other hand, has a closed tender, a roller-bearing cross head as well as silver boiler rings.
