Exceptional trade fair system for sale

This layout is exceptional in many respects. By this we mean, among other things, the great work of the leading members of the Modellbau Team Köln (MTK). Want to see more? Just click on the picture on the right...

The dimensions of the system are approx. 8.30 m à 3.40 m (greatest depth) or 2.30 m; all but one of the nine system parts (2.30 à 1.00) are 2.00 m à 1.00 m in size and all fit together in a 7.5 tonne lorry.

An age-old, simple idea.

Most people remember this from their childhood: a simple "figure of eight", often with a crossing, which clearly made train traffic more difficult. In this show layout, the figure of eight is firstly double-tracked, secondly without a crossing, but with over- and underpasses. And thirdly, the track layout is designed in such a way that the entire figure of eight cannot be seen from anywhere on the layout. The single-track branch line from Lenzigen station to Gelfertsheim further loosens up the route and, thanks to the passing siding in Gelfertsheim, offers additional track for two different train sets.

Equipment

Listing all the parts, kits, models, components etc. used would go beyond the scope of this page. Therefore, the most important things here in bullet points:

  • Track material (of course) exclusively Lenz tracks
  • Elektronik Digital plus (u.a. LS100, LS150, LR101, LB101, LB050, LV102, LZV100, LH100, LAN/USB Interface)
  • Turnouts with integrated Lenz 0-gauge drive, crossing turnouts and three-way turnouts with underfloor drives (mtb MP1)
  • Moulded signals from Viessmann

The stable open-frame substructure is made of blockboard, while the cork-lined tracks are made of plywood for sound insulation. The landscape is roughly pre-moulded with polystyrene and given its final shape with Rotband plaster. The actual landscape was created using material from HEKI, the birch trees were self-made and covered with HEKIflor. The pine trees are finished products from the manufacturer MBR model.

Tunnel portals and overpass structures were built from wood. The Lenzingen station building should be familiar: it is the LENZ Krakow station kit (unfortunately no longer available ex works), the other building sets are home-made or come from the Joswood workshop.

The grey "feet" that you can see in some of the pictures are part of the system and are of course also being sold. The Octanorm exhibition stand parts, which can also be seen in some of the pictures, are not part of the system and are not an item for sale

Operation

The layout can be operated both manually and in automatic mode, for which the tracks/blocks are equipped with occupancy detectors. Four trains run on the main line and two trains commute on the branch line, each in block mode. The points and signals are controlled digitally, of course, using suitable switching decoders. The connection to the computer is made via the LAN/USB interface.

Costs

The production costs, including materials but excluding rolling stock, amount to around â'¬18,000. Unfortunately, we have no space to set up and display this beautiful layout, so we have decided to part with it.

Now it's your turn.
