Bauart Gms 54, Gmmhs 56
At the beginning of the 1950s, the still young German Federal Railway mainly had obsolete G 10 and G 02 flat-roof wagons in the covered freight wagon sector, which had long been due for refurbishment. A complete overhaul did not appear to make economic sense, and there was not enough money for the construction and purchase of new wagons. The decision was therefore made to convert and modernise the old wagons: among other things, the underframe, springs and buffer lengths were brought up to UIC standard, the superstructure was also built according to UIC guidelines with - compared to the G 10/G 02 - larger doors and ventilation openings. From the mid-1950s, around 14,000 Gms 54s were put into service.
From 1964, the cars ran under the designation Gls 205. The PVC roof cladding fitted to the wooden panelling during the conversion was gradually replaced by a steel roof in the 1970s.
All models arefinely detailed and haveDoors with functional locking mechanism andVentilation openings that can be opened individually. True to the original, models with a steel roof have a smaller step and no roof overhang
Models that have the status "sold out ex works" or no longer appear in this list may still be available from specialist dealers.
