Rebuilt Coaches 3yg(e) - The Prototype

In the early 1950s, more than 20,000 two-, three-, and four-axle coaches of Prussian and Bavarian designs formed the DB's fleet for passenger and express trains. Most of these were outdated and in need of repairs. Due to limited resources, introducing new coaches was not an option, so the existing stock was modernized: the rebuilt coaches were born. Wheels and underframes were reused, while the superstructures were newly constructed. By the late 1950s, over 6,500 rebuilt coaches of the 3yg series were put into service. To improve running characteristics, two coaches were always closely coupled. Coaches with electric heating were designated "yge." It was not until the mid-1980s that the last 3yg coaches were retired. A layout set in era 3 would be incomplete without the rebuilt coaches...

We offer all three variants of rebuilt coaches with electric heating:

AB3yge: coach with first and second class
B3yge: second-class coach, available with different operating numbers
BPw3yge: second-class coach with luggage compartment
